Introduction
The Annual Reports of the British Society for the Promotion of Vegetable Production (1950 - 200?) are an invaluable source of information for
historians of Agricultural Research. We hope that it may be possible to scan them cover to cover and put digital copies on line.
Until then, the best that we can do is to select a few lines from each, and type them in by hand. This is a work in progress
First Annual Report 1950 From the Report of the Director Five members of staff were appointed in advance of the incorporation of the Society on the 28th September, 1949,
and consequently were engaged as temporary officers of the Ministry of Agriculture
which met all the expenditure incurred. The Director was appointed as from the 1st March 1948.
Between then and September, 1949, he was concerned with the search for a site for the Research Station
and with the establishment of the Society as a corporate body
